There are a lot of ways to finance a storage building , and there is one perfect for your situation. One of the best ways for many people is Rent to own. A lot of people have questions about just how that works. I had someone call me the other day about rent to own. The person on the line had heard that rent to own was, well, she couldn’t make herself put it bluntly, so I finished the statement for her: “You are wanting to know if it is a scam?” I asked politely. “Yes!” She said, in a way that showed an element of embarrassment and surprise!

Wrong information

There is apparently some bad information floating around on the subject, so I thought I would address that here. No. Rent to own is not some kind of scam. It is a perfectly viable way of renting or buying. I can’t speak for everyone, but the programs with which I am familiar are good programs.

Rent to own and interest

First of all, there is no interest on rent to own. you are paying rent for a building, and part of that rent, usually about half of it, goes toward the purchase of the building. Rent to own payments are very similar to what you would be paying for renting an equivalent amount of storage space from one of those self storage, or mini storage public storage facilities. The major difference is, that when you complete your contract on rent to own, you actually own the building, and it is setting on your property!

Early pay off

Many people choose to pay off the building early with income tax return money, or some windfall. This will save quite a bit on rental payments, since you would be paying for the building and not the rent if you pay it off. There is no penalty for early pay off. There is no credit check, and no credit damage for default. Since you are renting the building, you can call the company and have them pick it up, and your credit will not be hurt.

Public storage is usually a last resort. Something has to be moved out of one place, and moved into another quickly.

Sometimes people use self storage, or mini storage for short term storage, thinking that they don’t have any other option. There are other options!

Public Storage or Private Storage? Beating the high cost of public storage.

Storage and financial crisis

In the wake of our recent financial disasters, an already enormous public storage industry has grown beyond imagination. Much of the overflow from down sizing after the mortgage fiasco ends up packed away somewhere inside a small mini storage facility, awaiting the time when the financial situation avails the public of new opportunities. the beneficiaries of this economic decline are those who have the capacity to provide space for self storage.

Boomers

Adding to the growing mini storage boom, are the original “boomers” themselves, “baby boomers” that is. Those of us who were born during that age of extreme population growth, are reaching an age where retirement is available, and to many of us, the thought of spending our new found free time and energy maintaining large homes and properties after our children are all moved out is not all that appealing. We were already a mobile generation, and being tied down was never one of our favorite pastimes. Lookout kids, grandma and grandpa will be hitting the streets! The content of all those large homes will have to be put somewhere, and much of it will end up in a storage building.

Our Stuff

There are a lot of other reasons why storage business is booming these days. A decade or so of relatively strong economic growth has caused and allowed for strong production. We have more stuff! We have so much stuff in fact, that we don’t have a place to put it all! Last years gadgets are outdated, heck, last months gadgets are outdated, and we don’t always want to let go of them.

We are spending more yearly on storage than many countries produce in a year! The problem is, that outside of preserving the things we store, we are not gaining anything in the process, and all of those products that we store are losing value the longer they are stored. It is pretty easy to store a thousand dollars worth of goods in a place that will end up costing us a thousand dollars every year.

The answer

What then is the answer? well, for one thing, we could stop renting and start buying our storage space. At least when it is paid for, we will still have something to show for the money spent. Buying your own building as opposed to renting self storage or mini storage from a public storage facility is a much more rational choice. Most storage building suppliers offer financing through lending agencies and banks, as well as rent to own programs which will give you as much, or more space for storage as the public storage units, at about the same monthly cost, and in the end, you own your own private storage, and will not have to pay for storage space again!

Mini Storage Maxi Cost | The Large Cost of Small Storage

Mini storage, self storage or public storage, whatever you choose to call it, it is a huge and growing industry. Americans now spend billions annually on storage for the extra things that can’t live with us, but that we can’t live without. There are a lot of reasons for this. More home based businesses, down sizing our homes due to retirement, foreclosure or family size, are just a few of the reasons for the trend, and we expect to see even more movement in this area.

What concerns us is the practical side of this issue. The cost to the consumer. Money paid for rent on storage, is lost. It is gone for good. It often happens that the cost in storage fees, exceeds the actual value of the products being stored, and with mini storage, self storage or other forms of rented public storage, there is no dividend at the end. Consumers are spending billions, with nothing to look forward to but spending billions more! the expense doesn’t stop there! No, there are millions more spent on fuel driving back and forth to self storage facilities, and untold thousands of hours spent doing so! What a colossal  waste of money time and energy!

Public storage: how to stop throwing money down a rent hole!

Public storage, or mini storage as it is sometimes called, is, you know,  so mini, and so, well, so public! We think that storage should be private. Private, as in in the privacy of your own back yard, where you can get to it easily when you need to. And mini storage, well, why would you want to pay someone such a high price for what amounts to some inconvenient closet size space?

This situation is not the best option for consumers needing space. There is an option that will provide the consumer with high quality storage, at a reasonable price, and with an actual gain for the consumer. This is the purchase of a portable storage building or storage shed. You can buy a building more inexpensively than you can rent storage space. Most rent to own programs are set up with payments equal to or less than the cost of renting space. The major difference being, that you will own the building!

Other advantages include, but are not limited to:

Location. Most mini storage, or public storage facilities are not located in your back yard. Your portable storage building will be.
Time. You will not have to waste time driving across town to get to your public storage.
Economy. You will not have to waste fuel on trips to the self storage facility.

Even if you live in an apartment, you probably know someone who would let you buy a storage building and put it on their property. If you rent a house, your landlord would most likely allow you to have one placed on the property. You may need to have a waiver signed, but that is pretty easy to do as well.
