Rains County was named after Emory Rains, a founder of the town Emory, and the county that bears his name. He was a state legislator, and an author of the state of Texas Homestead Act.
Emory Texas is not the only city in Rains county. there is also Point , and East Tawokoni Texas! Emory is the county seat, of Rains county which is the second smallest county in Texas. East Tawakoni and Point are the only other towns. One of the most interesting things about Rains county is geological. The Eastern portion of the county, Emory, is sandy land, and the western portion where point exists, is black land prairie. It makes for interesting contrasts. The other city, East Tawakoni, is named because it is situated on the Eastern side of lake of the same name.
The area is rich in agriculture, and because of it’s position between lake Tawakoni, and Lake Fork, it is also a haven for sports fishing.
